Hence, the method solves the problem that when the memory is full and the user wants to take another picture, old pictures must firstly be deleted. A method for customizing a digital camera for at least one particular user is disclosed. The digital camera includes a reprogrammable memory for storing firmware which controls the operation of the digital camera and a camera graphical user interface responsive to the firmware stored in the reprogrammable memory. The method includes providing customization software executed external to the digital camera which can access a plurality of firmware components having different camera features. A user selects desired camera features to cause the customization software to access the corresponding firmware component(s). The selected corresponding firmware component(s) are provided to the digital camera and the reprogrammable memory is reprogrammed to store the corresponding firmware component(s) to thereby customize the digital camera.

A digital camera is provided with a special successive shooting mode wherein an imaging device makes a series of successive shots upon each shutter release operation, including at least a non-flash shot and at least a flash shot. When a shutter button is pressed halfway in the successive shooting mode, an exposure condition deciding device decides an exposure condition common to the non-flash and flash shots, or individual exposure conditions for the non-flash shot and the flash shot. When the shutter button is fully pressed, the imaging device starts the successive shots of one series. Images captured by the non-flash shot and the flash shot are displayed on an LCD panel. The user of a digital camera inputs an event title before shooting, so images shot under the same event title are stored in a group of image files. A face image extractor extracts face images from the respective image files, and characteristic values of the face images are calculated. In each image file group, the characteristic values of one face image are compared with other’s, to judge those face images having similar characteristic values to be the same person’s. Among the face images extracted from the image files of the same group, one of the most frequently appearing person’s face images is determined to be a representative image. Data of the representative image is stored in association with the corresponding image file group, so the representative image and the event title may be displayed as an index to that image file group.
