An image forming apparatus includes an image forming unit for forming an image, and a toner cartridge detachably attached to the image forming unit for supplying toner to the image forming unit. The image forming apparatus further includes a toner supply control unit for controlling an amount of toner supplied from the toner cartridge to the image forming unit; a remaining toner amount detection unit for detecting a remaining amount of toner in the image forming unit; an image forming unit used amount detection unit for detecting a used amount of the image forming unit; and a control unit for controlling the toner supply control unit to control the amount of toner in the image forming unit according to a detection result of the remaining toner amount detection unit and a calculation result of the image forming unit used amount detection unit.

Toner Cartridge Abstract
An image forming apparatus that forms an image according to an electrophotographic system includes plural developing units provided in a cylinder, which freely rotates a fixed angle at a time around a rotation shaft, to rotate together with the cylinder. Toner levels of toner cartridges arranged in the developing units are detected by rotating the cylinder a predetermined angle to stop the cylinder and measuring a flow-down time of a toner, which flows down inside of the toner cartridge, using an optical sensor.

An actuating structure formed in a toner cartridge adapted to actuate a physical sensor inside the printer which activates the printer when the door is closed. The actuating structure is displaced when the cartridge is inserted in printers that do not use a physical sensor in that location. Accordingly, the toner cartridge is functional in a plurality of printers. The toner cartridge can also have a plurality of actuating structures.

A toner cartridge is attachable/detachable to/from a main body of an image forming apparatus. A code pattern is provided on an outer peripheral surface of the toner container and can be read by a photosensor or a mechanical switch. The code pattern includes a first pattern string which is provided on the outer peripheral surface of the toner container along an insertion direction and in which a first and a second patterns respectively indicating different binary levels are alternately arranged at a specified period, and a second pattern string which is provided to be shifted from the first pattern string in the insertion direction by almost a half period and in which the plural first patterns and the plural second patterns are combined and are arranged.

Toner Cartridge Abstract
A toner cartridge is provided, which comprises a toner bottle containing toner, and a support member supporting the toner bottle in an axially rotatable manner. The toner bottle has a toner outlet port provided in a portion thereof supported by the support member. The support member has an outlet port shutter provided slidably on an outer surface thereof for opening and closing the toner outlet port, and a projecting engagement portion for positioning the toner cartridge with respect to a cartridge insertion port of an image forming apparatus when the toner cartridge is mounted in the image forming apparatus. The support member and the toner bottle respectively have a projection and a recess serving as a locking portion and a to-be-locked portion for restricting rotation of the toner bottle with respect to the support member when the toner cartridge is not mounted in the image forming apparatus.

Toner Cartridge Abstract
An object of the present invention is to provide a remaining amount of toner detecting apparatus capable of highly accurately detecting the remaining amount of toner with a simple configuration, a toner cartridge in which the remaining amount of toner is highly accurately detected with a simple configuration, and an image forming apparatus which enables the operator to easily recognize time to resupply toner and is capable of forming an image of high image quality. A holding member (22) is flexible, one end (22a) in the longitudinal direction is connected to a stirring member (11), and the other end (22b) in the longitudinal direction holds a detection auxiliary member (21) disposed in a housing (8). Consequently, the holding member (22) and the detection auxiliary member (21) rotate as the stirring member (11) rotates. Moreover, as to the detection auxiliary member (21), since the holding member (22) is flexible, the rotation radius of the detection auxiliary member (21) changes in response to the reference amount of toner (7). A detecting component (2) detects the distance to the detection auxiliary member (21) that changes in response to the amount of the toner (7) in the housing (8), and a CPU (24) calculates the remaining amount of the toner (7).

Toner Cartridge Abstract
An agitator blade and toner cartridge that enables a higher capacity of toner while lowering the load exerted by the print engine motor as toner is agitated. This allows for greater efficiency at low toner levels as the blade is brought closer to the inner wall of the cartridge toner tank. The blade consists of an axially directed axle shaft having a plurality of rigid, radially directed ribs A plurality of cross bar members are mounted between each pair of ribs. Each cross bar includes axially extended, rib-engaging wings. The wings are mounted so that the cross bars are generally prevented from passing between the ribs when the cross bars are driven by the ribs in the normal direction of agitator rotation. The toner cartridge can include a volume extension member that is sized to fit within the empty space of a corresponding print engine.
