When a shutter button (32) is operated, JPEG data corresponding to an object scene is written to an SDRAM (22) by the imaging task. A method for producing a distance map of scene distance values for a digital image captured by a digital camera includes capturing a first digital image of a scene under a first illumination condition, wherein the first digital image includes a plurality of pixels and the scene includes a plurality of scene objects located at different distances from the digital camera, capturing a second digital image of the scene under a second illumination condition that is different from the first illumination condition, and using the first and second digital images to produce a distance map having a plurality of scene distance values, wherein each scene distance value relates to the distance between the digital camera and the corresponding scene object.

In a digital camera, when a motion image reducing mode is set, a pointer is displayed on a monitor. When the operator operates on cursor key, the pointer moves, and when the operator operates a determination key at two different pointer positions, a rectangular frame is formed. Namely, the two pointer positions represent upper left and lower right coordinates of the frame. The picked up real time motion image is displayed in the rectangular frame. The displayed motion image is reduced to a magnification corresponding to the ratio of the rectangular frame with respect to the monitor frame. When the operator operates a shutter button at this time, the image in the motion image frame is recorded on a memory card. As the motion image is displayed in the motion image frame in accordance with the instruction by the operator and the image in the motion image frame is recorded in accordance with the operation of the shutter button, a processed image can be obtained without the necessity of preparing a separate image processing apparatus.

Wireless communications between a digital camera and a printer dock are established in a simple manner. A processor (10f) of a digital camera (10) detects a printer dock (12) within communication range via a communications circuit (10e) and its ID is acquired. The processor (10f) uses the acquired ID to transmit a sequential power transmit request to the printer dock (12). In response to this request, the printer dock (12) wirelessly transmits power from a communications circuit (12b) and a transmitting coil (12c). When power is received by a receiving coil (10a), it specifies that printer dock (12) is the communication party, and photographed data is wirelessly transmitted using an ID of the specified printer dock (12).
